Mining in the Old West





Open Pit or Mountain Removal Mining is an easier and more economical method to extract coal, minerals and ores from the earth instead of burrowing mine shafts to reach the deposits. Mining companies thus make greater profits, and profits are the name of the greed game.

In Mountain Removal Mining, the companies literally decapitate the mountains such as these beautiful, scenic mountains below. To hell with the destroyed mountain and with future generations of inhabitants. The mountains can never regain their height, splendor, and in many instances, their vegetation. Majestic trees and wildlife are sacrificed due to the destruction and the poisoning of the earth.

Waste is dumped into or spilled into the valleys and streams, poisoning the waters with the pollutants, killing all aquatic life and rendering the waters unfit for humans. Exquisite streams like the one below are ruined for generations if not forever.
